On saying such and such is not a Salafi, or does not belong to the Salafees By : Shaykh Saalih bin Fawzaan Al-Fawzaan

Question:

“In recent times again and again the dispute comes up of which one says, “Such and such is not a Salafi” or “does not belong to the Salafees”. Is this expression considered to be Tabdee’ (i.e. a declaration of someone being an innovator)? And is it required to provide the evidence against him?”

Answer:

“By Allah, I warn against these types of disputes. I love the children of the Muslims and the students of knowledge for Allah’s sake. If Allah wills they are all found in good. All of them are upon the creed of the Salaf. Even if some of them have shortcomings or ignorance he is not thrown out of as-Salafiyyah because of it. These words are not permitted. These words are not permitted between the brothers, the students of knowledge, and the children of the Muslims in the land of the Muslims. These words are not permitted. It is required to give advice. If you have something to say about your brother, then you advise him. But rejecting him, saying he does not belong to the Salaf or to as-Salafiyyah?! Maybe you don’t know what as-Salafiyyah means! Because some of them call to as-Salafiyyah while they do not know it. Truly he might not even be a Salafi. If you ask him about as-Salafiyyah; ‘What does it mean?’, he won’t know. Yes.”
