“NOUMAN ALI KHAN” IS a Deviated Individual

Our Intention is NOT to humiliate or insult anyone, but just to warn the people of wrong messages being conveyed by a person who has some how strayed far away from the teachings of Islam. Such teachings have now been observed to lead people astray from the true teachings of Islam.

In our era, among the many misguided callers, is Nouman Ali Khan who is followed and admired by many over YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp etc. Most of his admirers are the common masses who are ignorant of the essentials of  aqidah (creed) and manhaj (methodology) held by Salaf Us Saliheen. For them anyone who quotes the Quran and Hadith is a reliable scholar. They easily get impressed especially if the speaker is good at cracking jokes and storytelling. 

I was recently informed that some individuals ascribing themselves to knowledge and dawah ilallaah, are promoting this individual on the argument that  …’they have not seen anything which opposes the Book and the Sunnah from the speech and actions of Nouman Ali khan and that he is excellent when it comes to the explanation of the Quran and heart softening topics..”

To have a better understanding lets reflect on the below few questions and answers :   

Q. Is it NOT from the advice of the Salaf to investigate the condition (aqidah and manhaj) of the person from whom knowledge is taken?

A. Yes. The Salaf have repeatedly advised that knowledge is not to be taken except from the person of Sunnah. Imaam Muhammad Ibn Sereen (rahimullaah d. 110 AH) had said : “This Knowledge is a Matter of Deen, so be careful who you take your deen from.” (Introduction of Sahih Muslim)

Q, Is it NOT true that, Nouman Ali Khan trivializes important questions related to the aqidah (creed) and emaan (faith) concerning the attributes of Allaah Ta’ala? 

A. Yes. See the attached clip (Clip No.1) in which Nouman try to give false impression, that the question “where is Allaah?” is not at all important question and argues that such a question was not asked  by Allaah or by the Sahaba and that such issues need to be “KILLED” !! (Astaghfir’Allaah)

Can this be the speech of a person of Sunnah? Was this question not asked by the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) to the slave girl in the hadith of Sahih Muslim? Have not the Salaf taken a serious stand against those who rejected Allaah to be above his Arsh? Refer the important websitewww.abovethethrone.com on this vital subject of Islamic faith.

Q, Are you aware, that Nouman Ali Khan does NOT consider the cerebration of the Prophet’s birthday as “Bidah (innovation)”? 

A. See the attached clip (Clip No.2) wherein he says that he doesn’t have any opinion on the celebration of prophet’s birthday because it a “NON-ISSUE”!!! How could a person of Sunnah not denounce and free himself from actions which have been labeled bidah by the scholars of Islam? Did the Messenger or the Sahaba celebrate this? Refer the important website www.bidah.com for understating Bidah and its evil results.

Q. Are you aware that Nouman give lectures alongside the most dangerous Sufis and misguided callers to shirk & Bidah of our time (like Habib Ali Al-Jifri, Hamza Yusuf, Amar Khalid etc)? 

A. See the attached clip (Clip No.3) which is the clear proof for his deviation. if still brothers see him to be upright in his teachings then something is seriously wrong in their understanding! Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said : ‘Whoever innovates something in this matter of ours that is not a part of it will have it rejected.’ [Bukhari]

Imaam Ibraaheem an-Nakha’ee (d. 96 H – rahim’ullaah) said : “Do not sit with the people of ahwaa‘[desire], for verily their gatherings cause the light of emaan (faith) to go from the hearts, and strip the beauty from the faces, and cause hatred to be inherited in the hearts of the believers.” Ibn Battah’s Al-Ibaanah no. 375

Imaam Abu Qilaabah (d.140H – rahim’ullaah) said : “Do not sit with the people of ahwaa‘, and do not argue with them, for verily I do not feel safe that they will immerse you in their misguidance or confuse you in that which you already know. Ibn Battah’s Al-Ibaanah no. 369

Finally, I conclude by saying that the general topics delivered by Nouman Ali Khan should not deceive you brothers because the call of a Salafi Daee is not just upon generalities but he emphasizes more on the issues of aqidah and manhaj based on knowledge with clarity along with ordering the good and forbidding evil beliefs and practices without mixing truth with falsehood..

“The importance of aqeedah for the Muslim”

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (hafidahullah) said:

The correctness of aqeedah is the (most) fundamental principle. This is because bearing witness that Laa Ilaaha Illa Allaah Wa Anna Muhammaddan Rasool Allaah (there is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is His Messenger), is the first pillar of Islaam. And the Messengers called firstly, to the correction of the aqeedah because all acts of worship and behavior depends on it and without the correct aqeedah, there is no benefit from (these) deeds. The Most High said:

“But if they had joined in worship others with Allaah, all that they used to do would have been of no benefit to them” [Al-An’am 6:88]

And their deeds became invalid.

And Allaah (سبحانه وتعالى) said: “Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allaah, then Allaah has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Dhaalimoon (polytheists and wrong-doers) there are no helpers” [Al-Maa’idah 5:72]

And the Most High said: “And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم)), as it was to those (Allaah’s Messengers) before you: ‘If you join others in worship with Allaah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers’” – [Az-Zumar 39:65]

From these texts and other than them, it is clear that the correction of the aqeedah is from the important (affairs) and at the forefront of the da’wah. And the first (affair) to establish for the da’wah is the correction of aqeedah. And the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) remained in Makkah for thirteen years after his mission began, calling the people to the correction of the aqeedah and to at-Tawheed. And the faraa’id (obligatory acts of worship) were not revealed to him except in Madeenah.

Yes, and the salaat was made obligatory upon him in Makkah before the hijrah and the rest of the shar’iah was imposed on him after the hijrah. From this we have evidence that deeds are not accepted except after the correction of the aqeedah.

And this is for the one who says: That the eemaan is sufficient without having interest for the aqeedah.

This is contradictory because eemaan is not eemaan except if the aqeedah is correct. And if the aqeedah is not correct, then there is no eemaan, and (there is) no deen (religion)

4.  Nouman Ali Khan’s the Bayyinah Dream program curriculum includes Safwat ul Tafseer by Muhammad ‘Ali al-Saabooni*

[ *This As-Saaboonee is not to be confused with the great imaam, Aboo Uthmaan Ismaa’eel Abdur
Rahmaan As-Saaboonee who was born 373 A.H. and died 449 A.H. May Allaah have mercy on him.]

Muhammad ‘Ali al-Saabooni was refuted by many scholars such as Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz, Shaykh al-Albaani, Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan, Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd, Shaykh Muhammad Jameel Zayno and others.

With regard to his book Safwat al-Tafaaseer, it is one of those books of his which were most emphatically refuted by the scholars. There follows a list of some of those who refuted it, along with the titles of their books:

  1. al-Radd ‘ala Akhta’ Muhammad ‘Ali al-Saabooni fi Kitaabihi Safwat al-Tafaaseer wa Mukhtasar Tafseer Ibn Jareer, by Shaykh Muhammad Jameel Zayno, teacher of Tafseer in Daar al-Hadeeth, Makkah.
  2. Tanbeehaat Haammah ‘ala Kitaab Safwat al-Tafaaseer by Shaykh Muhammad Jameel Zayno.
  3. Mulaahazaat ‘Aammah ‘ala Kitaab Safwat al-Tafaaseer by Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan.
  4. al-Tahzeer min Mukhtasaraat al-Saabooni fi’l-Tafseer by Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd; this is included in his major book al-Rudood.

These criticisms led the Ministry of Awqaaf in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ban this book and confiscate it, as stated in the Decree of the Ministry of Hajj and Awqaaf no. 945/2/S, dated 16/4/1408 AH, from the General Headquarters of Awqaaf and Mosques in the Riyaadh area, pertaining to the confiscation of the book Safwat al-Tafaaseer and banning circulation thereof until its errors with regard to ‘aqeedah have been corrected.

Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd said:

The title Safwat al-Tafaaseer (“The Best of Tafseers”) is deceiving and confusing. How can it be described as the best when it mixes good and bad, when it mixes the tafseers of the Salafis Ibn Jareer and Ibn Katheer with the tasfeers of the Mu’tazili al-Zamakhshari, the Raafidis al-Radiy and al-Tubrusi, the Ash’ari al-Raazi and the fanatical Ash’ari grave-worshipper al-Saawi and others? Especially when this mixing is done by one who does not know what he is doing and is like one who tries to climb a wall without a ladder. Otherwise scholars may benefit from the prominent mufassireen who do not stray from the path of the salaf, the guidelines of tafseer and the rules of the Arabic language.

And he said: He is described as ignorant because he classes da’eef (weak) reports as saheeh (sound), and vice versa; he attributes many ahaadeeth to the two Saheehs or the four Sunans etc when they are not to be found in the two Saheehs or in any of those books; he quotes the Israa’eeliyyaat (reports  derived from Jewish sources) as evidence; and he contradicts himself when discussing rulings.

He is described as betraying the academic trust because he misquotes reports, quoting them only partially; he attributes things to scholars that they did not say; he distorts many texts; and he tries to produce evidence for the views of the khalaf (later scholars) concerning the verses that describe the divine attributes from the books of the salaf.

Because of his own beliefs, he tries to distort the ‘aqeedah of the salaf in his commentaries on the Tafseers of Ibn Jareer and Ibn Katheer, and even more so in his own book Safwat al-Tafaaseer. His distortion of a number of texts is aimed only at proving his own distorted ‘aqeedah.

Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz offered him the following advice:

We advise you to fear Allaah, and strive to follow the path of the righteous salaf in all your books. We also advise you to study the Qur’aan, the pure Sunnah and the words of the salaf of this ummah a great deal, and to benefit from the writings of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah and his student Ibn al-Qayyim. And we advise you to study the two essays al-Tadmuriyyah and al-Hamawiyyah by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah, and al-Sawaa’iq, and Ijtimaa’ al-Juyoosh al-Islamiyyah by Ibn al-Qayyim, and other books of the salaf.

Comments on the book entitled ”Safwat Al-Tafasir” by Al-Sabuny and his Ta’wil of Ayat-ul-Sifat

Q. What is your opinion with regard to the book entitled ”Safwat Al-Tafasir” for it quoted Al-Sawy as saying that the Messenger (peace be upon him) is the origin of mercy and blessings? Also, Al-Sawy said that adopting the apparent meaning of the Qur’an and Sunnah is Kufr (disbelief).

Ans by Ibn Baaz.

This is all incorrect. The Messenger (peace be upon him) is not the source of mercy, except by way of Ta’wil (allegorical interpretation), if we consider that he was a source of Shari`ah (Islamic law) which is mercy.

Otherwise, mercy is from Allah Alone and this saying is erroneous and wrong.

Moreover, claiming that adopting the apparent meanings of the Islamic texts is Kufr, is also wrong; this is extremely bad and condemned statement by Al-Sawy. We ask Allah to save us from this.

Kufr is to stray from the true path. In fact, a sound person never says so for both sayings are decisively great abomination.

May Allah protect us from that!

Imam Awzaie said: (إنْ خَفِيَتْ عَنّا بِدْعَتُهُمْ لَمْ تَخَفْ عَنّا إلْفَتُهُمْ) that if a person of innovation’s bidah is not becoming clear to us, then at the very least his companionship is not hidden, because the companionship of ahlul bidah is with the ulama of ahlul bidah not with the ulama of ahlul haq.

Al-Fudayl ibn ‘Iyaad (d. 187H) said, “Whoever sits with a person of innovation, then beware of him and whoever sits with a person of innovation has not been given wisdom. I love that there was a fort of iron between me and a person of innovation. That I eat with a Jew and a Christian is more beloved to me than that I eat with a person of Innovation.”

Al-Fudayl ibn ‘Iyaad (d.187H) rahimahullaah said,

“Do not sit with a person of innovation. Allaah has rendered his actions futile and has taken the light of Islaam from his heart.” He also said, “Do not feel safe about your deen with a person of innovation. Do not consult him in your affairs and do not sit with him, for whoever sits with a person of innovation Allaah will make him inherit blindness.” And he said, “Verily, Allaah has angels who look for the gatherings in which remembrance is made, so look and see with whom is your sitting. Let it not be with a person of innovation for Allaah does not look at them. And a sign of hypocrisy is that a man stands and sits with a person of innovation.”
