1. Sheikh. Utyameen Said :
“Ascription to as-Salaf as-Saaleh (the Pious Predecessors) is obligatory, because as-Salaf as-Saaleh were upon that which was the Prophet (sallallahu alahi wa-sallam). And saying, ‘I am salafi’, if he intends to establish a hizb (party/group), or affiliate with a hizb, then we oppose the groups (hizbs). According to us, the entire Muslim Ummah should be one group upon the way of the Prophet (sallallahu alahi wa-sallam) and his companions.
If he intends by the saying, ‘I am Salafi’ that is ‘I follow the Salaf’ and ‘I don’t want to form a hizb (party) such that I declare astray, everyone who opposes me’ – then this is Haqq(true, correct).
We are all Salafis (salafiyoon). All of us ask Allah that we die upon the way of the salaf. We all ask Allah for this. But to make a hizb by the name of Salafi, and another hizb by the name ikhwaani, and another hizb by the name Tableeghi, and another group named such and such, we do not agree with this, we do not agree with this.
Did the sahabah make Hizbs like this? … reply. (the audience replies): No. No. We say No. Whosoever claims it (i.e., the sahabah made such hizbs), then he should bring the proof….

The Shaykh explains that the Salafis who follow the truth, the way of the Salaf, without tahazzub (partisanship), are the party of Allaah in truth, and that it is obligatory for everyone to associate himself with it. The Shaykh also explains that none can be from this party of Allaah (of Salafiyyah) unless they actually follow the way of the Salaf in reality.
*** Note: The Shaykh praised the refutations of Shaykh Rabee’ bin Haadee and his defending the manhaj of calling to Allaah. These matters are well-recorded and known.

Sheikh Said : our brother, the Doctor, Rabī’ bin Hādī al-Madkhalī to visit this region, [so that] the one to whom certain matters are not apparent may come to know that our brother, may Allāh grant us and him success, is upon “Salafiyyah ” , the way of the Salaf. And I do not mean here that Salafiyyah is a hizb (partisan group) which is set up to oppose the Muslims outside of it, but I mean by Salafiyyah, that he (i.e. Shaikh Rabī’) is upon the path of the SALAF IN HIS METHODOLOGY .

When the Shaykh is warning from tahazzub as occurs in other statements of his, even if it be in the name of “Salafiyyah”, then that applies to those deviants who followed other methodologies (like those of the Ikhwanis) whilst claiming to be “Salafis” and declaring others to be astray unless they join their group. This behaviour was manifest in the way of Abd al-Rahman Abd al-Khaliq and his so-called “Scientific Salafiyyah” movement, he reviled some of the major Scholars, and brought destructive false principles under the banner of Salafiyyah.
No matter how hard people have tried to malign the Salafis who follow the way of the Salaf in aqidah and manhaj, following the scholars in that, all their attempts to use the various statements of Shaykh Ibn Uthaymin in which he warns, correctly, from falling into tahazzub in the name of Salafiyyah, have failed. This is because the very issues around which the Salafis based their criticism and warning against the opposers, were similarly spoken of and outlined by Shaykh Ibn Uthaymin by the time he passed away (rahimahullaah) and they include matters pertaining to Sayyid Qutb, Takfir of the rulers, rebellion, multiplicity of groups (jamaa’aat), false methodologies in calling to Allaah, and calling to Tawhid, demonstrations and so on. Further, Shaykh Ibn Uthaymin praised Shaykh Rabee on many occasions and explained that the only reason the opposers attack him because he spoke of some of their figureheads.
So the truth is clear and only those are blind who choose to be blind, despite the matters being as clear as daylight.

3. Finally Sheikh. Utymeen Said : “Ahlu Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah, they are the salaf in their belief, even the ones who come later until the Day of Judgement. If one is upon the way of the Messenger salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and his companions then he is “SALAFI”

Sheikh. Utymeen Said : Speaking about the people of innovation and those who carry unsound concepts or a methodology which is not upright, (then) this is from advice, and Not backbiting.
Rather it is (an act of) sincerity to Allaah, His Book and His Messenger (by carrying out what is commanded and forbidding evil etc) and it is (act of sincerity) to the muslims (by giving them good advice).
So if we see an innovator spreading his innovation then it is obligatory that we make clear that he is an innovator so that the people are saved from his evil.
(Likewise) If we see an individual who has an ideology/concept opposing that which the Salaf were upon, then it is obligatory for us to clarify that so that people are not deceived by him.(Likewise) If we see a person who has a specific methodology (whose) outcome is evil then it is obligatory for us to clarify that so that the people are saved from his evil, and this (done) out of sincerity to Allaah, His Messenger and His Book; and it is sincerity to the rulers and their subjects (by giving good advice so that they saved from evil etc).
Regardless of whether speaking about the people of innovation is (done) amongst students (of knowledge) or in other gatherings, this is not backbiting.
And as long as we fear the spread of these innovations, or that concept or that methodology which is in opposition to the methodology of the Salaf; it is obligatory that we clarify so the people are not deceived by that.
